Welcome to The Garden Tutor! My name is Laurie Musilli, a Connecticut native and local organic vegetable gardener. Being the daughter of a Polish immigrant farmer, I grew up having a small garden in our yard. But my real gardening journey began in 2015, when I joined The Wilton Garden Club and became co-chair of the Youth Gardening program. I have a Master's Degree and Connecticut Certification in Elementary Education so working with children in the garden came naturally to me.
Within the Youth Gardening program, I help to educate youth about organic vegetable gardening, conservation, pollinators, science in the garden, garden art, community outreach and sustainability. I work with students of all ages in the school system, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church youth groups, high school interns and more. The programs that I have been involved with have won numerous awards from the National Garden Clubs Inc., The New England Garden Clubs, Inc., The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., the Pollinator Pathway, Wilton Go Green Environmental Stewardship and a Town of Wilton Proclamation.
Years later, I started The Garden Tutor where I merged my love of the outdoors, gardening and teaching. I focus on not only planting but educating. I work in gardens at personal homes but also for giving gardens that donate to local non-profit food banks. I work in the garden with the homeowner, local volunteers, church members, preschool and youth group students.
I believe that there is always a way to grow you something! The Garden Tutor specializes in growing plants for you that meet your personal needs whether you have raised garden beds, patio containers or window boxes, garden fences or trellises. I can help you select plants that work for your growing environment, what you like to eat and even what you would like to explore and try! I always focus on being resourceful by being creative with the materials used, upcycling and conservation minded.
